Bring your ink and brush out to nature?
Yes, You Can!
How to look, observe and sketch nature with your ink and brush
Dear Ink Brush Practitioners,
I hope you are keeping well and enjoy wherever you are at this moment.
Recently, I have been observing nature around me and found much joy and inspiration in what she has presented to me. As an ink brush practitioner, I have always been practicing the strokes by my desk and I enjoy the peace and tranquil process of being still. With the fresh spring air starting to warm up the leaf buds and the yang energy continuing to rise above the horizon, I found myself drawn to another aspect of life - curiosity, movement and exploration, which I consider as the other qualities of the brush practice journey.
Bringing our practice out to nature doesn't mean that we have to sketch everything on the page. Instead, we can carry our ink and brush in our mind and sketch as we go! Sounds good, isn't it? Let your mind be the paper and your eyes be your brush. When we bring our awareness and curiosity while we walk in nature, we see more. Trees are not only just another piece of wooden pillar, instead we see lights and shadows, interesting branch formations and maybe even calligraphy strokes! When you do get a chance to sit down and do a few quick sketches to capture the spirit of what you see, you will realise the joy and reward of your brush practice.
Enjoy wherever you are and whatever you see. When you bring your ink and brush in your mind, this is possible.
