Through step-by-step guidance and accessible brush exercises, you will gradually bring these elements together into a complete landscape painting.
Rooted in the traditions of Oriental art, this course goes beyond technique. You’ll be guided to cultivate presence, rhythm, and mindful breathing—allowing your brushwork to become a natural extension of your inner state.

Landscape Painting Course Introduction
Course Structure
This course unfolds across four modules, each devoted to a unique aspect of Oriental landscape painting.
Module One - Tree
Curriculum - 6 weeks
Session One: You will learn how to paint tree trunks, branches and roots with outline brush technique. Session Two: You will learn how to paint tree leaves through dotting, outlining and adding colors. Session Three: You will explore different painting orders when creating a tree. You will then create a mix of trees and add colors. Session Four: You will study the way how a pine tree grows - its branches, pine needles and skin patterns; and learn to paint a pine tree from beginning to end. Session Five: You will learn how to paint willow trees and different ways of painting its leaves. Session Six: You will learn how to paint bamboo groups in near distance, weeds in water, and forest in far distance.

Module Two - Rock and Mountain
Curriculum - 8 weeks
Session One: You will start with exploring the concept of how an object exists with various qualities; then you will learn how to use centered and side brush strokes to create the outline of a rock. You will use the brush technique and sequence to outline your first rock and … a group of rocks! Session Two: From this session you will learn various brush techniques to create textures on rocks. In this session you will study the “Spread-out Hemp Fiber” texture and “Folded Ribbon" texture and create rocks with them. Session Three: You will learn the “Axe-cut” texture and create rock in small and big. Session Four: In this session you will study the “Piled Wood Sticks” texture and the “Lotus Leaf Veins” texture and create rocks with them. Session Five: From this session you will tap into a new level - painting mountains. You will embark on this new level by getting familiar with a few important concepts, painting perspectives and brush techniques in Oriental Landscape Painting. Session Six: Get ready to create a full landscape painting! In this session, you will learn what is the “Sugar Lumps” mountain style and paint along following step-by-step instructions and demonstrations. Session Seven: In this session, you will continue to explore different mountain painting techniques by studying a new technique called the “Massing Ink Dots” style; you will create a piece with lively brush strokes with curiosity and fun. Session Eight: In the last session of this module, you will learn how to combine all the techniques you have learned and create mountain slopes.

Module Three - Water and Cloud
Curriculum - 5 weeks
Session One: In this first session, you will learn how to paint shallow water, streams, waterfalls and waves. You will learn all the brush strokes through simple and accessible brush exercises and painting examples. Session Two: You will learn two different types of painting outlined clouds. Session Three: From this session you will paint a few full paintings with elements such as mountains, water and clouds. In this session you will create overhanging cliffs and waterfalls. Session Four: There are many different ways that the elements of nature come together. In this lesson, you will learn how to create a piece with a floating cloud and waterfall, with a misty and tranquil feeling. Session Five: To bring your understanding and brush painting skills even further, you will learn how to paint a large waterfall in a deep mountain valley in the last session of this module, where you can bring what you have learned so far.

Module Four - Human and Architecture
Curriculum - 6 weeks
Session One: In this session you will explore the meaning and existence of a human figure in Oriental painting content. You will then learn how to create human fingers in different settings. Session Two: Wilde lives is another important element in Oriental painting. In this session, you will continue to practice outlined brush strokes and to paint various animals and birds. Session Three: To add more liveliness in the painting, you will study the perspective and structure of objects and buildings in a painting. Then you will learn how to paint objects such as houses, palaces and towers, bridges and boats. Session Four: In the next few sessions, you will create full pieces of landscape paintings where you will bring everything you have learned through the landscape painting process, and enjoy bringing the wonderful nature onto your page.
